Bandstand Yarnbomb Project A Revelation

I’ve been involved in a madcap project recently to yarnbomb a local town’s bandstand for the jubilee celebrations.  I’ve visited villages that go in for this sort of comunual dressing up of their area.  In fact one or two I visited on walking expeditions have reminded me of the well dressing ventures that go on in Derbyshire.  There they literally decorate the head of wells with fantastic themed floral displays – minutely detailed stories and everything portrayed in flowers and buds.  It’s an incredible sight but very time consuming and exhausting work.   Yarn bombing is along similar lines but decorations, flowers and bells, themed items etc are knitted and crocheted.  Some displays were truly fantastic and a huge amount of work was displayed.  I regret that our local efforts, a first for our group, looked somwhat paltry in comparision (from memory anyway), but it was fun and we learnt a lot about how much knitting one needs for such a project.    Nearly ten ft between the pillars with several spindles in each length requires quite a bit of knitting to weave them through!
